Summer it was, autumn it is
According to the Danish calender system, three months of summer has ended and autumn started, September 1.
I haven´t really been blogging much this summer, though thinking of doing so almost daily. I hope my little summer resume will convince you about my pleasure of being a part of this “reading and writing community”, which are so inspiring. Thank you for all your good blog posts made with heart and soul, I am always excited to see them, and well entertained while studying them. Now, back to work.
How was summer actually this year?
In the beginning very rainy.
And windy. The sailors enjoyed that.
A warm evening, – has summer arrived?
No, not yet. No summer ahead, just the sight of Sweden.
Then suddenly the heat and a very strong sun broke through. Protection was needed.
But only for a short time, then everything went normal again.
Typical summer lunch can be comforting, served with a cold beer. And a sweater.
The happiness of having finished 13 years of school are not affected by any type of weather. In the end of June, yelling and singing can be heard all over the city, when graduates are driving from house to house, to visit their families.

Evening walk at the beach in the end of June. Not particularly crowded. Would all summer be like this? It seemed so. Many people lost their patience, packed their suitcases, and travelled to the south of Europe.
Not me, I was going to Jutland, wearing sweater and rubber boots. (There has to be just a few people left in the Country, in case something happens.) But that was in July, the second summer month. I´ll tell you about this in my next post. For now I´ll end the story of June, the first and very wet summer month.
My 2008 blog 
I know what you mean with lots of people loosing patience and running South to the Mediterranean The Netherlands didn’t fare too much better this summer…however, we like you, stayed (in Northern Europe region at least) and had enormous luck that our planned days out were mostly sunny!
Even this last week it rained half the week, stormed like crazy on Thursday and Friday and on Saturday was fine all day for the BBQ we had planned weeks earlier !
In a way it is almost charming never to know how the weather will be, – one gets SO grateful when weather and plans unites in one big happy ending. I had the same experience as you this summer. 🙂
I really enjoyed reading this summary of your not-all-that-summery June, Birgitte – such a range of pictures. That picture of your lunch has made me hungry now, even though I’ve just had breakfast. Yumm. And I love that picture of the evening table with the candles – it looks so cosy.
Tomatoes on rye bread is a nice fresh summer lunch, – do you like raw onion too? So good at tomatoes. One of our guests played classical guitar for us, at the candle dinner, couldn´t be more cozy. The sun doesn´t go down before 10 -11 pm in late june/ july, it is indeed a special and nice time of year.
Growing up, we often had dark rye bread or pumpernickel with cottage cheese, tomatoes and chopped raw onions or spring onions. It tastes heavenly.
A candle-light dinner accompanied by guitar-playing – wow, I can’t think of anything nicer!
It must be wonderful to have such long summer evenings – ours aren’t quite that long, but then we don’t have such long winter nights either!

Your month of June may have been rainy and rather cold but what lovely pictures you managed to take ! To me it looks really exotic: the sea and its wide horizon, the colourful jetty and the bonfire at the lakeside. There is beauty everywhere even if the sun plays hide and seek. Looking forward to July in Denmark !

Wonderful photos. The third photo pleased to me most of all. In Finland it has been rainy this summer. The number of “hot” day has been less than in 2011.

Yes, we can see Sweden, there are only 3 miles between the two cities Helsingør (Denmark) and Helsingborg (Sweden). My photo was taken from another spot, where the distance is a bit wider, but it´s still possible to see high towers.
I need to bone up on my geography. I’ll remind you to check. 🙂
Usually we can count on some lovely weather in September. The summer visitors go home, we get our beaches back, and the water is still warm. Bliss. But tonight I’m wrapped in a fleece jacket and wearing my wool slippers. Ah well. Autumn is my favorite time of year. Here it comes . . .
I can imagine the peace, and how you enjoy it. Being wrapped in fleece is by the way quite nice, a chilly summer evening,- not all the day of course, at least not every day…I have too many fleece carpets.
I have fleece carpets, too . . . Cowboy fleece. Sigh.
I’m not ready yet to let go of summer! We have a few chilly days this week but it will be warm again starting tomorrow. I hope you have a mild Autumn to make up for your mild summer.
